Many girls from popular groups have tried to go solo. Some with winning results (Beyonce, Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake). Others failed to take off straight out the gate (all members of the Spice Girls except Mel C., Nicole Scherzinger). Cheryl Cole, the sexy member of Girls Aloud and recurring judge on UK competition series X Factor has decided to give solo stardom a go, with mixed results. While some tracks are guaranteed to get you grooving on the dancefloor (Parachute, Happy Hour, 3 Words, Make Me Cry), others will make you want to skip around to the next song (Rain on Me, Boy Like You, and almost every track produced by microphone hog Will.I.Am, (except Heaven) who produced five tracks for the cd). My only complaint about the record is that for so many songs on the record about being scorned, she doesn't seem angry at all. Don't get me wrong, 3 Words is a producer's wet dream, filled with slick production, and catchy melodies (after all, Chris Braide has worked with Kylie Minogue and Steve Kipner has produced tracks for Christina Aguilera and Kelly Rowland. Syience, Taio Cruz, Wayne Wilkins also ocontributed to the record) but I would have liked for Cheryl to channel a bit more emotion into the songs. One of my favorite songs on the cd: "Fight for this Love" which I have posted quite a few times on this blog, and "Stand Up" with Taio Cruz. When Cheryl coos that she's sliding on her Louboutins, you actually believe her (unlike some other chick who has been performing that song about a $600.00 pair of shoes recently). He's another amazing talent across the pond that you guys have to check out. His last cd is amazing, and unfortunately has not been released Stateside.
