For once I can't really say anything bad about this year's AMA's, except that there was barely a bad performance and I couldn't tell you who won if you asked me, but I will definitely be posting my favorite performances of the night as well as leaving my critiques along with said performances.
It was seven minutes in heaven with Janet as she performed a medley of her past hits along with her latest single "Make Me."
The streets of New York will definitely inspire you or anyone who has ever had dreams and aspirations. Jay and Alicia definitely brought the heat (and Mary J. Blige out of her bored stupor when they performed this track).
I am living for Shakira and having all those sexy chicks performing all over the stadium was awesome!
Was about to get bored with the Black Eyed Peas performance until the DJ got smart and went into the remix of Meet Me Halfway. That is when in my opinion BEP got into the groove.
Rihanna gives you Leeloo realness as she performs two new songs. In other RiRi news, I'm a bit torn because on Tuesday she will be performing on Good Morning America while Alicia Keys will be performing on the Today Show. What's a music fan to do?
Lady Gaga doesn't disappoint as she performs "Bad ROmance," breaks some glass, performs "Speechless," breaks some more glass and then the camera man decides to give us a really bad close-up on her ginormous nose.
I will admit, I'm not a big Carrie Underwood fan (nor am I a really big fan of country. My taste in country goes as far as a little bit Dolly, a little bit Shania). So I decided to stick around for a bit and have a listen to the new Carrie Underwood ftrack, "Cowboy Casanova." It's a pretty good song, and it didn't hurt that she decided to throw a bit of Pussycat Doll-esque dancing in her performance, since choreography basically dominated most of the telecast anyway. I think I'm being converted into a Carrie Underoos fan.
I got so caught up in everyone's performances, I actually had no idea Mary was even performing. I also almost forgot she had a new cd out next month. Great way to remind us, girl!
Whitney Houston (who looked pregnant in that white dress...or was that crack belly?) performing "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" and receiving an award from another former crackhead, Samuel L. Jackson.
Okay Lola we all love the new single, but I have a bit of an issue. First of all, I felt you gave a half-assed performance. I don't feel you fully owned the choreography, even though you were dancing in sneakers. Second, if you're singing about Loubutins, shouldn't you have been strutting around in them through the entire performance? If Madonna can dance in heels and use the boxing theme at 51, you can do it at 40. Now without further adieu, check out the world live premiere of Louboutins, where J Lo also happens to bust her ass on stage. That happens at the 2:40 mark.
...and now for the worst performance opf the night goes to Timbaland, Soshy and Nelly Furtado. Nelly tried, but she could not save that horrid performance. First, Timbaland came out in a leather jacket ten sizes too small for his what it looked like 300 pound frame. Wasn't he a bodybuilder at one point? It also didn't help that the camera guy kept focusing a bit too long on the hot dogs on the back of his neck. Maybe all them late nights in the studio finally caught up with his ass. Soshy was stiff. Miss Thang definitely lived up to her name with her lackluster debut performance. Nelly tried to save the day, but by then it was tool late. The damage had already been done, and the bad Thriller interpretation with the nackup dancers didn't help either. So I will not torture you guys by posting it here. Instead I'll give you a look at the video, which is over seven minutes long. Be warned: Like G.I. Joe, Twilight and Transformers, this video makes no sense. It's just a bunch of people looking pretty, protruding vampire fangs, and spewing bad dialogue.
I was really glad when Alicia came back out to perform her second single from December's Elements of Freedom, "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart." I really love this song.
And now for the final performance. J.Lo almost won the award for the gayest performance of the night...that was until Glambert took to the stage to perform "For Your Entertainment." He girated with his female dancers, pulled a male dancer on a leash, gave us glittered fever and even made out with his male keyboardist (which I noticed immediately made the folks in the AMA control room very nervous, based on their quick cut reaction). Now my question is was that performance gay enough for you OUT?
