I'm sure you all have been seeing everyone from lenny kravitz to Mariah carey out promoting the new film Precious (in which they both have starring roles in). there's been one person missing from the promotional junkets, and that whole lotta person is none other than Mo'Nique.
Word is that Mo'Nique is not doing any press to promote the film because she demanded $100,000 in appearance fees and producers told her big ass to look down and go park it in a corner. now anyone who is in the film industry knows that when you do a film, you get paid your fee once you have wrapped, and that promoting the film you are in regardless if it sucks or not comes with the package. Meaning, you don't get paid to do press. The final straw was at the NYC premiere of the film last week when Mo didn't show up.
According to the NY Daily News: Aside from the $100,000, Mo'Nique wanted producers to pay the costs for her (hair and make-up) stylists and she insisted producers have her stylists fly first class.
“Mo’Nique said she signed on to do this film for a small amount of money. She said she didn’t care about ‘no Oscar’ - all that mattered was ‘those Benjamins!’ Because Oprah and Tyler Perry are backing the film, she feels as though there should be a budget to pay for her promotional duties,' the insider added.
Uh, doesn't she know that precious is an independent film, meaning alot of actors take a small fee if they are going to do a small film. Big stars do that all the time, so that they can actually be taken seriously as an actor and not someone out for a paycheck. Everyone is talking about how good Mo'Nique is in this film, so if her diva deluxe demands are true, this may hurt her chances for Oscar consideration. I would think someone who has paid years of dues in this industry would be glad she's finally able to play with the big boys. I'm sure if Oscar was made of Velveeta, big mama would be changing her tune in no time.
