KRIS AVALON'S NUMBER 7 HORROR PICK IS...
...One of my favorite's to not only come out of the 2000's, but one of the best adapted from yet another Clive Barker short story. The film stars Bradley Cooper as photographer Leon Kaufman who can't seem to make it big until he meets an art dealer (played by Brooke Shields) who tells him to take a risk with his work. One day he travels down into the New York City subway system and while shooting some footage late at night he saves a young model from being raped by a band of thugs. When the girl winds up missing the next day, he goes on an investigative hunt that leads him to a serial killer named Mahogany (Vinnie Jones), a guy who slaughters his victims on the 2 am subway train and feeds their carcasses to these demonic reptilian creatures so that they wont need to uncontrollably hunt prey and resurface. This film was awesome not only because of the blood and gore, but because Bradley Cooper put on an amazing performance, director Ryuhei Kitamura does an awesome job with color (or his cinematographer) in this film, and what scared me the most is that getting your face smashed in at 2 in the morning could actually happen to you especially in New York. It's also a definite change from the usual getting slashed up in the woods serial killer story. MMT didn't do too well when it was released in theaters last year (partly because of Lionsgate's lack of promotion), but I have noticed that by word of mouth, this film has grown into a cult following. I have heard they want to make a trilogy, so I think maybe since Bradley Cooper has emerged into a breakout star (loved him since Alias), this would be the perfect time to possibly get these films made. unless he feels now he's too big of a star to continue doing horror films.
