KRIS AVALON'S NUMBER 3 HORROR PICK IS...
One of my favorite vampire horror films (second to The Lost Boys, of course) is a small film released back in 1987 called Near Dark. I know the original folks of Hollyweird were going back and forth about a possible remake, but there's nothing like the original. This film is perfect as is. Near Dark is about a young cowboy (played by Heroes' Adrian Pasdar)who is seduced by a new girl in town only to find out he has been kissed by a vampire. Slowly turning into a creature of the night, he is persuaded to join up with the girl and a roaming band of ghouls. But when his own father and sister become targets in the vampires' endless search for 'food,' he is forced to choose between loyalty to the vampires, or loyalty his own family. The Legendary Lance Henrickson also stars, as well as Bill Paxton, Jenette Goldstein, Jenny Wright and was directed by one of my favorite female directors Kathryn Begelow (Strange Days, Point Break, The Hurt Locker).
