A NIGHT OUT WITH SOCE THE ELEMENTAL WIZARD

It's two days later, and sorry that it's taken me this long to blog about Soce the Elemental Wizard's album release party. Two days of straight partying and drinking will do that to a bitch. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the event because based on the lighting at the club, my pics didn't come out too hot from my digital camera. Soce and I did talk for a minute (very nice guy and cute for your nerve), and we are working on bringing you guys an exclusive interview within the next couple weeks. In the beginning I wasn't too familiar with Soce's music or what to expect once I got to the Bowery Poetry Club. Once I got there, I had an amazing time. A self-professed homo who likes to make out in slo-mo, not only is he an awesome performer with impeccable skills, but the stage presence was on point as well. This isn't Soce's first time at the rodeo, as the LEGENDARY Joan Crawford once said. Perfecting his skills on the mic for the past fifteen years, he won the gay rapper battle on Eminem's Shady 45 radio show which is quite a feat for many in the hip hop game who look at homo rap as not only a gimmick, but career suicide. And Soce's about to prove his naysayers wrong. He's adorable, quick-witted and with grade A beats complimenting his off the chart rhyming skills, Soce's about ready to take on his mainstream counterparts and soon the world. You are definitely rewady for your close-up, Mr Soce.

After a very funny thirty minute-plus comedy set from comedian Baron Vaughn, Soce took to the stage around 9 pm where we were treated to a live set of many tracks off of his latest cd, "Master of Fine Arts" as well as three shorts on the screen behind him (shout out to DJ Baker for his small role in his "U Smell Good" piece). I was also happy that a pretty good crowd showed up to show Soce some love. It was cool that a lot of women showed up. (Who knew alot of straight white girls loved hip hop (I need to get out of the hood more). There were many songs that stood out to me as favorites, such as BAAB, "They Call Me," "Grossed Out," "Sqeeze" (my absolute favorite for obvious reasons), "Internet Treasure Quest" and my second favorite, SMT aka "Suck My Titty." I'm not all about the comparisons, but lyrically Soce could be the lovechild of The Beastie Boys if they marathon gangbanged Eminem and nine months later he pushed Soce through his anal canal. Kinda gross and I'm sure that would hurt like hell, but in a way kinda hot (okay Kris, come back to earth...still nursing that hangover as I write this).

There are some songs off of MOFA that I keep on rotation in my ipod. "Not Ready," which talks about the fear of fame (something all of us artists face), and his collabo with Deadlee, "Looking Back," which took me back to the Beastie Boys production wise. Attractive, quick-witted, and beyond multitalented (Not only did Soce do all the beats on MOFA, he makes beats for other artists as well), Soce's definitely an Artist 2 Watch out for. Soce has definitely made a fan out of me, and I look forward to supporting everything that comes from him in the future. You can cop his cd at cdbaby.com and for more info on Soce, head over to his MySpace.com/soce and youtube.com/lordofdrakknor
