Paula Abdul announced Tuesday she is quitting "American Idol," a show that she said became an international phenomenon with her help.
"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return" to the hit Fox TV singing contest, Abdul said in a posting on her Twitter account.
In a statement, Fox and the show's producers said Abdul was "an important part of the 'American Idol' family over the last eight seasons, and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show."
They said she was a "tremendous talent" and wished her the best.

As you all know, this whole blowout happened after FOX gave half of their AI shareholder's money and forwarded it to both Ryan Gaycrest's and Simon Cowell's bank accounts, leaving Paula and Randy to fetch for whatever crumbs was left under the table. As for Kara Dionobody, she'll be getting paid with hate mail. After finally no longer mixing her vicodin with red wine, Paula grew a backbone and said, "I quit this bitch!"
"I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon," Abdul said on Twitter.
Entertainment Tonight reports that Abdul's former colleague also used the social networking site to express his reactions to the news.
"About to go to sleep when I started seeing my blackberry blow up," wrote the show's host Ryan Seacrest on Twitter. "I have read what u have read and I am shocked and saddened about Paula."
If he's so sad about her leaving, why not throw her a bone and give her some of your salary money. I don't understand how in the hell you're making 40 million hosting AI for the next three years when in fact you bring nothing to the show but sheer queeniness and an annoying knack for overpronouncing words as if you're talking to a room full of Klingons. While I am going to miss the banter between SImon and Paula, I am glad she is leaving. That'll give Simon an even bigger reason after that 100+ million he will be making for the upcoming season clears and once he leaves, AI can die the horrible death it was meant to do after Fantasia won.
