Nas may want to do right by his baby mama Kelis, but he certainly isn’t approaching it in the best way. While his estranged wife was giving birth to the former couple’s newborn son on Tuesday, the rapper was partying hard during an impromptu performance in the Queensbridge Projects, where he announced to the assembled crowd that he was “hammered off of Champagne.” The party continued on at NYC hot spot The Gates, where the wordsmith — who was surrounded by women — continued drinking bubbly until 3 a.m However, the rapper ditched the nightclub and raced toward the hospital when he heard Kelis was in labor but wasn’t allowed to witness the birth of his son, who has been christened Knight. Despite the snafu, Kelis should be happy: a judge ordered Thursday that Nas pay his ex $44K a month in combined spousal and child support, as well as the mortgage on their L.A. home. He must also pay for Kelis’ baby nurse, prenatal expenses and medical insurance.
