Last night as I was watching a marathon of Noah's Arc: Season 2 and Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom, I started thinking with all the Prop 8 drama, and the success of RuPaul's Drag Race, while there are some who have opened their hearts and minds to the acceptance of gay people, we still have a long way to go as far as representation. Also in television, there's no gay shows that represent us anymore. I mean, Noah's Arc is cancelled. There's no more L Word or Queer as Folk. As I started jonesing from my lack of gay television fix, change, is a comin'. A Brazilian series by the name of caRIOcas is currently in development, and, if produced, would become the nation's first television show to focus exclusively on gay Brazilian men. The pilot was filmed in Rio de Janeiro and the name is a spin on "cariocas," or a native of Rio de Janeiro. Also one of the stars of the pilot is oh-so-sexy Marcello Melo Jr., seen in the shower above, who starred in the hit films City of God and also in Last Stop 174?
So far, the company is in talks with Brazilian cable provider Globosat for South American clearance, as well as reportedly some American cable networks. Fingers tightly crossed that this show get's picked up by SHOWTIME or HERE. Stay as far away from uber-conservatine LOGO as possible.
In the trailer below, watch Marcello Melo Jr, and assorted Brazilian hotties frolic in the shower, on the beach, near Sugar Loaf, etc.. The trailer is described as a sexy/crazy/fun—part Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and part Noah's Arc. I really hope they get this show off the ground. it would be good to see some latin men gettin' their freak on outside of Bel Ami, Kristian Bjorn and Brazilian porn movies.
