Even though Wes Craven suggested here that Neve Campbell won't be returning to Scream 4, there still seemed to be a modicum of surprise when Kevin Williamson expressed on his Twitter page "trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario, this sucks."
Pop Wrap caught up to the writer who is scheming a "new trilogy" for the franchise. Williamson clarifies: "I've had numerous conversations with Neve. She's a friend. Nicest girl on the planet. It just ain't workin' out and it sucks for me. It was no cameo. I'd never play Sid out that way. And I ain't got no Sid-less scenario. So, I don't know yet what to do. Hate all the wrong info circulating. My fault. There's a learning curve with Twitter. I gotta watch it."
Campbell barely showed any enthusiasm when Scream 3 rolled around (seriously, why would she?), so it was apparent she was trying to back out of the series. David Arquette and Courteney Cox-Arquette, so far, are the only two remaining cast members that appear to be coming back for the sequel.

I say if Kevin writes a brilliant script (like the first tow Scream films), why not return to the role that made you a HUGE star. Neve's not really doing anything (except some summer series set to premiere on NBC in July), so if Dimension is willing to show you the money, and they can do something where Sydney passes the torch to a new scream queen, why not take on the part of Sidney Prescott a few more times?
