I had reported this story a few weeks ago, and now it's official. While it was pretty much set in stone that Robert Englund would not be reprising his role as iconic son of a hundred maniacs, New Line has announced that Jackie Earle Haley will now be slashing teens up in the the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street which comes out April 16, 2010. Music video director Samuel Bayer (taking a page out of the Texas Chainsaw/Friday the 13th re-butchering handbook) is directing and Wesley Strick is writing the script. Shooting begins May 5th in Chicago.
In case you aren't too familiar, Jackie as Kelly in The Bad News Bears (the original). But his more famous role came when he played the amazing role as Rorschach from Watchmen. I actually think this is a step in the right direction as far as casting. Anything is better than Billy Bob Thornton, which was the first rumor in the beginning stages of Elm Street's rebirth. This isn't the first time Jackie has played a pedophile. He starred as the creepiest child toucher who ever touched in the amazing Little Children.
