Based on a source over at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors, director Patrick Lussier revealed that Lionsgate expressed it has no interest in a sequel to My Bloody Valentine 3D.

According to Lussier, the studio, while surprised by the slasher film's b.o. success, doesn't want to develop a follow-up and would prefer to leave the film as a one-shot. Lussier and writer Todd Farmer have each said they have an idea as to where to guide a second chapter.

My Bloody Valentine 3D hits DVD and Blu-Ray on May 19th.

Lionsgate has no interest, because they feel the only film they can bank on to make them loads of money is the SAW franchise. That shit was evident when they basically dumped The Midnight Meat Train and Mutant Chronicles in select theaters. I'm not saying MBV needs a sequel, since the original film didn't have one, but if Lionsgate wants to stake claim as a horror distribution company, they need to look beyond Saw. Word to Lionsgate: You can't bank on a franchise forever when it's premise is starting to dwindle with audiences.
