You'd think that after all the money Iron Man made at the summer box office, that they'd cough a bit more dough for their actors. According to Variety, the studios are being cautious about spending money for movies in 2010 and 2011. Here's a surprising bit from the article:
Then there is comeback kid Mickey Rourke, who is poised to follow his Golden Globe-winning performance in "The Wrestler" with an offer to play the main villain in "Iron Man 2" — but at a lowball opening offer of $250,000 from Marvel; Marvel's tactics have already prompted Samuel L. Jackson to swear off playing Nick Fury because of a similarly low offer.
$250,000 sounds pretty darn good if you're an actor starting out (or maybe if you're Laurence Fishburne going from starring in big hit films to a popular television series like CSI), but when a film like Iron Man earned $582 million at the worldwide box office, plus DVD sales, then I think you can stop being cheap and offer your actors better deals. If people are spending damn near $50.00 at the theater for not only $12.00 tickets but for junk food as well, you can fall back on trying to save money. Oh I have a better idea. Stop remaking every good film into shit. You can save plenty of money that way. Let's hope Mr. Rourke ended up getting a much better deal than Samuel L.
