Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said Wednesday a Hillary Rodham Clinton presidency would be a step back to the past, turning her husband's image of a bridge to the future against her. The former first lady decried the tenor of his comments in an interview with The Associated Press.

"I know it is tempting — after another presidency by a man named George Bush — to simply turn back the clock, and to build a bridge back to the 20th century," the Illinois senator said in Denver.

"... It's not enough to say you'll be ready from Day One — you have to be right from Day One," he added in unmistakable criticisms of Clinton, who often claims she's better prepared to govern, and her husband, who pledged during his own presidency to build a bridge to the 21st century.

Within hours, Hillary Clinton pushed back in an interview with the AP — and got in her own dig.

"That certainly sounds audacious, but not hopeful," said Clinton, in a play on the title of Obama's book, "The Audacity of Hope." "It's not hopeful and it's not what we should be talking about in this campaign," said Clinton, suggesting Obama was abandoning the core of his campaign.

"I would certainly, through you, hope we could get back to talking about the issues, drawing the contrasts that are based in fact that have a connection to the American people," Clinton said.

In his speech, Obama depicted Clinton as a calculating, poll-tested divisive figure who will only inspire greater partisan divisions as she sides with Republicans on issues such as trade, the role of lobbyists in politics and national security. At the same time, he elevated McCain, fresh off victory in Florida's crucial primary, as the likely Republican nominee.

In the AP interview, Clinton vowed to take the high road and warned that voters in the mega-primaries next week expect that.

"I'm going to continue to talk to people about what we need to do in our country to try to lift people up, to keep focused on the future to be very specific about what I want to do as president because I want to be held accountable," said Clinton.

Obama drew more than 10,000 people to his speech at the University of Denver. They packed a hockey arena and crammed into two overflow rooms and still were lined up outside to get in. Colorado is a caucus state, one of 22 to hold nominating contests Tuesday, and is one of a handful of states where the Obama campaign is predicting victory. Clinton has the advantage in several others, while several are still up for grabs.

"Democrats will win in November and build a majority in Congress not by nominating a candidate who will unite the other party against us, but by choosing one who can unite this country around a movement for change," Obama said, speaking as rival John Edwards was pulling out of the race in New Orleans, leaving a Clinton-Obama fight for the Democratic nomination.

"It is time for new leadership that understands the way to win a debate with John McCain or any Republican who is nominated is not by nominating someone who agreed with him on voting for the war in Iraq or who agreed with him in voting to give George Bush the benefit of the doubt on Iran, who agrees with him in embracing the Bush-Cheney policy of not talking to leaders we don't like, who actually differed with him by arguing for exceptions for torture before changing positions when the politics of the moment changed," Obama said.

"We need to offer the American people a clear contrast on national security, and when I am the nominee of the Democratic Party, that is exactly what I will do," he said.

The two rivals fought hard prior to the South Carolina primary, but the tenor has eased a bit since then.

"I've been trying to keep this on a level where the contrasts and comparisons are certainly fair, this is an election after all," said Clinton. "I've been trying very hard to set the right tone, to be focused on bringing the party together, bringing the country together but around specific goals."

Clinton spent her day in Little Rock, before heading to Atlanta for speeches to the Southern Baptist Convention and a major Democratic fundraiser. She took a colorful diversion on the trip to Atlanta, heading down the aisle of her campaign plane serving peach cobbler to reporters and staffers.

"It was fresh this morning," said Clinton. "I love anything peach."

Obama said he understands voters might feel some comfort at the idea of returning to another President Clinton after eight years of Bush. But he cautioned voters not to buy the argument that Clinton's experience is what the country needs.

"It is about the past versus the future," he said. "And when I am the nominee, the Republicans won't be able to make this election about the past.

"If you choose change, you will have a nominee who doesn't just tell people what they want to hear," Obama told them. "Poll-tested positions, calculated answers might be how Washington confronts challenges, but it's not how you overcome those challenges; it's not how you inspire our nation to come together behind a common purpose, and it's not what America needs right now. You need a candidate who will tell you the truth."

Later Wednesday, Obama gave a 10-minute talk by live broadcast to a joint meeting in Atlanta of four historically black Baptist denominations, where Clinton was to appear in person later. These groups produced some of the most prominent civil rights leaders, including the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.. whom Obama quoted.

"Pastors are pushing this movement forward," Obama said of his campaign, "and I need each and every one of you in this fight."

He asked the audience to imagine what it would mean for the country to see him with his hand on the Bible, taking the presidential oath of office.

"Our children will look at themselves differently and their possibilities differently. They'll look at each other differently," he said.

EXCLUSIVE!!! Britney Hospitalized!!!! Put Under Psychiatric Hold!!!!!! AGAIN!!!!!!

An ambulance left Britney Spears' house around 1:20 A.M this morning. The windows were covered and a police convoy of what seems like DOZENS of cops lead the way.

Britney was in the ambulance and she arrived at UCLA Medical Center around 1:35 A.M.

Following the ambulance were none other than Lynne Spears and pubic lip, Adnan Ghalib - in the same car.

Britney is going to be put under a 5150 psychiatric hold at the hospital for 72 hours. Hopefully her treatment will be extended.

Spears has been under the treatment of a psychiatrist, who was at her home Wednesday night and placed a call to the authorities, which triggered Brit's hospitalization.

Britney had not slept in days and her shrink was concerned for her deteriorating condition.

This is all just so tragic.

Our thoughts are with Britney and her family.

Hopefully the stars will align and she will finally get better now, once and for all.

According to the L.A. Times, "Authorities said the welfare hold was prompted by a telephone call they received from Spear's psychiatrist. It was unclear exactly when they had received the call, but it was apparent that the operation had been carefully planned over a period of time. Unlike the first welfare hold — in which Spears' ambulance was closely pursued by a throng of photographers — vehicles today were blocked from following the same route. The motorcade that whisked Spears to the hospital also showed a large investment in resources. The line of emergency vehicles stretched longer than a football field."

Brit Brit may have been calm while she waited for the ambulance to take her to the hospital early this morning, but once there - all hell broke loose!

Spears had a big outburst, hurling swearwords at her parents and staff.

Edwards To Quit Presidential Race!

Controversy over cutting of ‘Boondocks’ episodes

Sooner or later, any satirist who wins a Peabody Award for re-animating the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and having him denounce “Soul Plane” runs the risk of upsetting corporate America.


That’s one theory being floated this week as “The Boondocks” creator Aaron McGruder informs faithful viewers of his edgy, irreverent Adult Swim series that Cartoon Network has unexpectedly shortened the ‘toon’s second season from a planned 15-epi 13.

Fifteen episodes were in fact produced but two, titled “The Huey Freeman Hunger Strike” and “The Ruckus Reality Show” aren’t currently scheduled to air, allegedly due to controversial material targeting Black Entertainment Television executives.

On his Myspace.com page, McGruder has posted the following message to fans: “Okay, so … maybe it’s a 13-episode season.” More cryptically, links to YouTube clips said to contain content from the episodes posted on McGruder’s Myspace page have been mysteriously taken down (when users click on the links to the clips to view them, a “We’re sorry, this video is no longer available” message pops up instead).

Cartoon Network public relations senior vice president James Anderson confirmed to us Tuesday that the two episodes in question “will not be airing on Adult Swim.” Anderson graciously declined further comment on the issue.

Since it’s practically impossible for a YouTube video clip to suddenly vaporize on the Internet (Buzz has been trying unsuccessfully to get footage of our third-grade spelling bee yanked for weeks …), we’re surmising that lawyers may have been introduced into the dust-up.

Conspiracy-minded, blogging “Boondocks” fans online are now busy posting endless theories and wondering whether the two episodes will be included in the show’s second season DVD set, tentatively due out later this year.

At deadline Tuesday, it remained unclear whether or not the content would eventually become available at retail or online.

One thing’s certain: controversy has never exactly been bad for business regarding McGruder’s work or for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim brand.

And this time, a large chunk of Boston didn’t have to be shut down.

WHAT IN GAY HELL! TYRA BANKS TO HOST YET ANOTHER TALK SHOW

The CW has green-lighted an untitled fashion-magazine reality series from Tyra Banks and Ken Mok, the duo behind the network's No. 1 show, "America's Next Top Model."

The series has received an eight-episode order and will begin production in April for a launch in late spring or summer. The show, which the CW unofficially describes as "The Devil Wears Prada" meets "The Assistant," is eyed as a potential companion piece for "Top Model."

"It is a competition show about aspiring assistants looking to become assistant editors at a fashion magazine," Mok said. "At the same time they're trying to prove themselves as aspiring fashionistas, that they have a sense of style and savvyness, all the things to make it in the fashion world."

In each episode, the contestants will compete in two challenges, an individual competition and a team competition, in which each squad will submit a page for "The Book," a mock edition of the magazine. The losing team's page will end up in the trash, and one of its team members will be eliminated. The page from the other team will be included in "The Book." The winner of the competition will land a job in the fashion industry.

The producers are in negotiations with a real fashion magazine to host the contestants, and its editors will help judge the challenges.

Mary J. Blige returns to perform on “One Life to Live,” Friday February 15 & Monday February 18. Grammy organizers reach deal with striking writers

Life just got a lot easier for the head of the Recording Academy.

Last month, Neil Portnow vowed to stage a full-scale Grammy Awards show with or without support from the striking writers guild.

He should have little trouble delivering on that pledge after the Writers Guild of America agreed Monday to let its members work on the show set for Feb. 10.

Portnow called the guild's decision gratifying and promised a 50th-anniversary show "with an amazing lineup of artists and performances."

With the guild's board of directors deciding to sign an interim agreement for the awards ceremony, the Grammys will escape the fate that befell this month's Golden Globes.

The Globes were stripped of stars and pomp when the guild wouldn't agree to an interim deal and the Screen Actors Guild encouraged its members to boycott the ceremony, which was reduced to a news conference.

The agreement allowing guild-covered writing for the Grammys is in support of union musicians and also will help advance writers' own quest for "a fair contract," the guild said in a statement.

"Professional musicians face many of the same issues that we do concerning fair compensation for the use of their work in new media," Patric M. Verrone, president of the guild's West Coast branch, said in the statement.

The guild referred to the deal as an interim agreement, not a writing waiver, but it applies solely to the Grammys, taking it out of the category of a struck show and allowing the use of union writers.

Other interim deals made by the guild with independent studios such as United Artists and Worldwide Pants apply broadly to a company's slate of projects.

Payment for projects distributed via the Internet is a central issue in the contract dispute between the writers union and the alliance that represents studios.

Informal talks began last week between the union and several studio chiefs in an effort to resolve the nearly three-month-old strike that has disrupted movie and TV production. Formal negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers broke down in early December.

During the impasse, the Directors Guild of America reached a tentative deal with the alliance that addressed new-media issues and created pressure for the writers to resume talks.

The writers guild has agreed to allow next month's NAACP Image Awards to proceed with guild support, a courtesy also granted to last Sunday night's Screen Actors Guild Awards.

But the guild has declined a waiver for the Academy Awards, raising doubts about how the Feb. 24 ceremony will be staged if the strike continues and actors stage a boycott.

The ceremony's producer has vowed the show will go on, hinting it could be padded with clips from 80 years of Oscar history if writers and stars do not cooperate.

Judge Denies Foxy Brown's Travel Plea

A judge has denied Foxy Brown's request to get out of jail early so she can go to California for an ear examination and for repair of an electronic ear implant.
State Supreme Court Justice Melissa Jackson ruled Thursday that the singer will not let Brown go to Los Angeles' House Clinic for the exam and repair of a defective cochlear implant, the Manhattan district attorney's office reported Monday.

Brown, 29, revealed her hearing problems during a court appearance in 2004. Her petition to Jackson said that her condition was worsening in jail and that she faced serious harm to her hearing unless she had the cochlear implant reprogrammed and repaired.

Prosecutors say Brown can get the treatment she needs in New York, but her attorneys say she requires the treatment of specialists at House Clinic.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was sentenced in September 2007 to a year in jail for violating probation. Jackson had put her on probation after she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault of two manicurists at a Manhattan nail salon in August 2004.

Brown's albums include "Ill Na Na" and "Chyna Doll," and she is known for her sexy outfits and racy lyrics. Her lawyer, Laura M. Dilimetin, had no comment on the ruling.

Congratulations are in order for platinum-selling singer Gwen Stefani and rocker husband Gavin Rossdale, who are expecting their second child together.

Rossdale's father confirmed the news to PEOPLE. "They and the whole family are delighted," Douglas Rossdale said.



According to a source speaking to The Sun, the former No Doubt frontwoman, 38, and Rossdale, 40, "couldn't wait to share the news with everyone" after confirming the pregnancy at California's Cedars-Sinai hospital recently.

The couple, married since 2002, have a 19-month-old son, Kingston. This will actually be the third child for Rossdale, who discovered in 2004 after taking a paternity test that he had fathered a daughter in 1989.

Back in August, Stefani revealed her desire to produce a sibling for Kingston.

"Obviously I'm in a race to have another, but I don't want to do it while on tour," the singer told InStyle. "But I can't wait to get pregnant again. It's so fun and consuming and romantic."

Her biological clock has been a running theme since having her son. In October 2006, Stefani told USA Today:

"Things could be a lot harder a few years from now. I mean, I'm not at the beginning of my career. I'm on a ticking clock. And I don't want to miss anything."

Britney Left Crying After Manager Spat

Britney Spears was left screaming and crying on Monday night following a dispute with her manager, Sam Lufti, various outlets are reporting.

Perez Hilton documents the night with various posts, claiming that Spears and Lufti began arguing, and Spears called her paparazzo boyfriend Adnan Ghalib for assistance. Once he arrived, Ghalib was not allowed past Spears' security gate, Hilton reports. Spears was later photographed crying and distressed.



When approached by a photographer to see if she was ok, a tearful Spears replied "I'm fine. I'm sitting for once and having a nice time with my dog," according to Page Six.

The Associated Press reports that police were called to Spears' home after reports of a swarm of paparazzi trespassing in her gated community.

Hilton also has a photo of what is allegedly a text message conversation between Lufti and Ghalib, in which Lufti tells the photographer that he is a "manic trigger," and that he'll "kill her" if Ghalib continues to have contact with Spears. He tells Ghalib to "cease all contact with her completely."

Following the incident, Page Six reports that Ghalib released a statement through his photo agency, Finalpixx: "The truth is that Sam Lutfi started an argument with Britney and the two ended up in a screaming fight. Sam continued to verbally abuse Britney as she sat barefoot on the curb at her Summit home crying holding her dog London."



"Britney called Adnan for help and he heard the distress in her voice and drove to the Summit immediately. While outside the gates he was denied access as Sam Lutfi had informed the guards that he was not allowed entry. When Adnan then tried to call Britney it seems that Sam had turned all of her cell phones off."

The fight came on the heels of Lufti surprisingly giving information to Barbara Walters, who then relayed the information on "The View" on Monday. According to Walters, Lufti called her and told her that Spears suffers from "mental issues" and has seen a psychiatrist.

"He said that Britney is suffering from what he describes as mental issues which are treatable," Walters said on "The View." "He said that she has been to a psychiatrist and that she, I assume, is starting some kind of treatment."

Walters also said Lufti told her that Spears has "mood swings," and that "she's been having trouble sleeping."
