Okay guys, I just got finished watching Quarantine, and I have to say it was hands down the scariest film I've seen so far in 2008. I was not disappointed at all. The frights were aplenty, there was a good story, and in the end you cared about the characters you were watching on screen. The story goes as this. A female reporter (played brilliantly and convincingly by Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter) is shadowing, along with her cameraman, a group of firemen. It's just a normal, boring routine story until the firemen get a call about a woman barricated in her apartment who may need some assistance. What ends up happening is the woman is infected with some kind of rabid disease, which winds up having the police and the CDC barricade the reporter, tenants and firemen in the building. The cast is amazing from my babydaddy Jay Hernandez playing a sexy buff firefighter, Jonathon Schaech (sporting a 70's pornstache), Greg Gerrman (Ally McBeal), and Columbus Short (former Britney back up dancer turned actor, best known for his role in Stomp The Yard). The screams are aplenty, the blood pores like fine wine, and the scares you never see coming. This is definitely a movie you want to catch in the theaters or take a date to. The only issue I had was the Cloverfield-style shaky camerawork. I understand it was used to show the POV of the cameraman, but it became difficult at times to see what was going on when the camera was shaking during the scary parts. Oh, and I hated Cloverfield. Unlike that film, like I said before you give a shit about the characters in Quarantine. The film is a remake of the hit Spanish film "REC," which I've been dying to see. Word is that a sequel for REC is in the works, so would it be a surprise if we see a Quarantine sequel coming soon?
I highly recommend this film and it's just in time for Halloween.
