IS A "MANIAC" REMAKE IN THE WORKS?

William Lustig chatted about the rumored Maniac remake on a recent edition of Fangoria Radio.

"The Maniac remake keeps threatening to happen," Lustig says. "I've been talking [with various parties] for nine months to untangle the rights. I think it will happen."

The 1981 original starred Joe Spinell as a killer prowling the streets of New York City. Tom Savini provided the pictures grisly FX.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea. The reason this film worked the first time is because NYC was dangerous, gritty and full of pimps, drug dealers, peep shows and ho's. It's all Disneyfied now. Maniac won't pack the same punch as the original.
