AVALON'S FILM REVIEW - LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Director: P.J. Pesce
Screenwriter: Hans Rodionoff
Starring: Tad Hilgenbrink, Autumn Reeser, Angus Sutherland, Corey Feldman, Jamison New Lander, Tom Savini, Moneca Delain, Gabrielle Rose, Corey Haim

The sequel is set in the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson and his younger sister, Nicole. Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals' way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gang's lifeline before his sister's transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Corey Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom.

When I heard about a sequel to one of my favorite horror films of the 80's, and that Corey Haim and Corey Feldman were going to star, I was excited to see the new film. When i popped the DVD in, i was beyond pissed. not only was the acting horrible, the script laughable and the effects cheesy, Corey Haim wasn't even in the movie. Now I love my 80's movies and my 80's atars. I love all the John Hughes movies and I still pop in The Goonies (not cool when they made fun of that movie in a scene when Chris and Nicole's Aunt wanted to make it a Blockbuster night) and I thought if you're going to pay homage to an iconic 80's film, you should have done it right. Angus Sutherland (Kiefer's half brother) could use some acting lessons. Having a rock star look and exposing your washboard abs throught the movie doesn't coaver up the fact that your acting is about as wooden as Keanu Reeves on a good day. The best thing about this film is Corey Feldman. He looks just as he did back in the day when he did the first film and he definitely lights up the screen whenever he appears in his scenes. I say do this film over, call up Corey Haim to work with Edgar Frog as a fellow slayer (he could use the work) and pretend this film doesn't exist.
