AIN'T IT COOL NEWS GOES INSIDE FRIDAY THE 13TH

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Aint It Cool News scored some killer interviews with producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, as well as the new Jason Voorhees Derek Mears to talk all about the new FRIDAY THE 13TH! These interviews were conducted shortly after the teaser footage was debuted for the Comic-Con audience to much fan-boy approval. Here's some choice quotes from the articles:

Brad Fuller: What made the movie interesting for us to make is that Jason Voorhees is one of the most iconic killers to ever be put on film. And what made him interesting is that he's methodical and unstoppable. Having said that, anything that goes away from that and makes it feel unrealistic... we wanted to move as far away from that as possible. For us, this is a guy who lives in the forest and eats what he kills. He's in shape because he lives in the forest; he's not lumbering around because he has to trap. That, to us, made him a more effective killer. So in our movie, as you saw from the piece we showed today... Jason is fast. He runs fast. He's athletic. He can move.

Derek Mears: What's interesting about the kills in this film is that they derive from the character. They're intelligent. He'll actually set people up, rather than... "Wow, there's a giant sandpaper machine in the middle of the woods! I wonder if I'll see that again!" In our film, it's things that you just kind of pass by, and then you're like, "Holy shit! He put that there on purpose because... and now he's going to... Ohhhhhh!!!" As a fan, that's what I got from reading the script. It really plays on the horror fan's intelligence, rather than have a guy walking around and slash! Where's the next guy? Hiding in the closet? Slash! You actually see the method and thought process of what's going on. You set people up. I really dig that.

Brad Fuller: For us, it was just about making him as scary and imposing as possible. It was about making sure that we had the mask right and the machete right. Also, that there was a variety in the amount of kills: how we do them, how much blood there is, and making sure that they're not repetitive.

I love horror and I know a lot of people are skeptical about the new Friday film, but I'm really looking foward to seeing it. I think it's really cool that they want to make Jason a clever serial killer who sets up booby traps for his victims rather than walking with a machete after them in the woods and all of a sudden he catches up with them. I think people should just wait until the film comes out before they jump to conclusions. Can't wait until February 13th 2009. In the meantime, enjoy the short film called "Jason Hurts" which was directed by Dave Neabore.
