NBC is pleased with Thursday night's debut performance of Fear Itself, the horror anthology series by sundry of writers and directors.
Faced with an uphill battle to garner viewers during the summer season, the premiere - by Breck Eisner and Mick Garris - averaged a 2.0/6 in 18 - 49 and 5.2 million viewers overall. Fear Itself matched NBC's highest non-sports rating in this time period last summer, while topping all of last summer's non-sports results in total viewers, despite exceptional competition last night from ABC's coverage of the Lakers/Celtics NBA Finals.
It couldn't match, however, the 8.5 million viewers attracted to Swingtown, CBS' saucy '70s wife-swapping series debut. I'm sure after people saw Swingtown, viewers will flock over to Fear Itself. Who the hell wants to watch conservative sex on CBS??? In any case, if NBC gets stupid and axes FI, I saw the series as a cable show. We all know major networks aren't loyal to their programs. Also horror doesn't work in the summer. I still have faith in the show though.
