DECLARE INDEPENDENCE

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Due to the fickle and imploding state of the music business, one of my favorite artists Tori Amos is going indie.

The musical genius is sending a big "Fuck you" to her evil record conglomerates and is pursuing alternative routes to get her tunes to her fans, who, if you ask me are the true lovers of music, not these greedy corporations who are all about exploiting their consumers. Tori's manager, John Witherspoon, explains the exciting new development to Billboard magazine.

"After 22 years of being in the shackles of the major label system, Tori has chosen the path of independence for her next work. As with many of her contemporaries Tori is devising new and exciting ways of getting her music to the masses without the boundaries and limitations of the major music companies."

He continues, "This will commence with a project of new music and visuals which is being started in the summer and due for release in Spring 2009."

Until then, fans of Amos should be on the lookout for the new graphic novel Comic Book Tattoo, based on Amos' work, due in July through Image Comics.

I can't wait. Tori already has a core fanbase, so as far as making money and putting a tour together, she'll definitely be alright.
