We all know that rap and hip hop music haven't always been friendly to the gays. Kanye West admits it, Keith Boykin has said that the genre has a "long and ambivalent relationship with homosexuality" and last year Brighton, England went so far as to ban homophobic rap songs from their clubs and bars.
Now Terrance Dean, a former MTV executive, is about to release his book, "Hiding in Hip Hop: On the Downlow in the Entertainment Industry," next month.
From the press release: "Hiding In Hip-Hop" uncovers a hidden and well-known unspoken secret. Deep within the confines of Hip-Hop is a prominent gay sub-culture. A world that industry insiders are keenly aware of, but choose to ignore.
According to Dean, 'This book is filled with intrigue, sexy celebrity bed partners, abundance of drugs, and of course, the down low/gay men and celebrities in the entertainment industry.'"
On hip hop site SOHH.com, a blogger announced the release of the book. The comments don't disprove Kanye West's feelings about homophobia in the hip hop world:
"All you faggot ass rapper niggas runnin round wit ya pants hangin off ya ass and thinking that shit is fly are about to be exposed," said one.
"I hope this book comes out and exposes BY NAME some of these faggots. Thats the reason hip-hop sucks right now because of all these watered down clowns in here. EXPOSE AND REMOVE these lames," said another.
Finally, someone posted something refreshing at the end of the thread, "wow, its like watching a bunch of 5th graders up in here... there have been gay people in Hip Hop from the beginning, and all your wack ass homophobia is the reason people are afraid to talk about being gay. get a clue people, this is 2008, not 1982, mkay?"
From your mouth to god's ears. I know one thing...if Terrance is going to be out there promoting this book, he better travel with the same amount of security as the Pope. you know these queens will have Day Day who just got out of Rikers last tuesday put a bullet in your head so that you can keep your mouth shut. these faggot as fake rappers need to learn that at the end of the day, secrets are always bound to come out.
