According to Mediatakeout.com, Mary J Blige was talkin' reckless to Vibe Magazine. Here's how the Queen of R&B Soul described her first meeting with Oprah Winfrey.
’Oprah was like, ‘I didn’t care for you, but it was when I got to know you that I realized who you were.’ Though Oprah is now a friend, Mary is not surprised at her opinion. ‘I understand somebody like her wouldn’t even feel me at all.’ Mary says. ‘I’m a n*gga, you know what I’m sayin? So when she said that to me, I was like, ‘Thank you for that honesty.’
This reminds me of that episode of Eli Stone, when James Avery's character was sued by a black attorney for not hiring him because he wasn't what uppity blacks consider on their level. Oprah comes off that way to me at times. You have to be a safe negro like Will Smith or Denzel Washington. Oprah couldn't be bothered with a Jay-Z or a 50Cent.
